The family told police that the two accused kidnapped and raped her in an orchard
Kulgam: A young woman from south Kashmir’s Kulgam district who was kidnapped and allegedly raped in the last week of October by two men, succumbed to her injuries at SKIMS soura on Friday late evening.
Earlier, the incident had sparked widespread protests demanding stringent punishment for those responsible for the “kidnapping and sexual assault”.
“The victim, a resident of Poniwah village had gone to Akhal hamlet to attend a wedding ceremony that took place in the house of one Sabzar Parray. Two youth from Ashmuji village kidnapped and raped her in a dense orchard. The girl was found in semi-unconscious state and was shifted to a local hospital wherefrom she was referred to Srinagar hospital for further treatment,” said an official and identified the accused men as Adil Dar and Wasim Dar.
The duo had arrived arrived in the village as guests to attend the marriage function.
Earlier in the month, a police official said that Police Station Devsar received a written complaint from a person that his sister (name withheld) was kidnapped by two persons namely Aadil Ahmad Dar and Waseem Rehman Dar, both residents of Ashmuji Kulgam from Akhal, who took her to nearby dense orchards and rapeed her.
“In the meantime, the victim was brought by her cousin brother to police Station Devsar in an unconscious state and injured condition. The girl was instantly taken to hospital for treatment and medical examination,” the official said.
Three hours after the complaint was filed, police was able to arrest the accused men.
The woman who was undergoing treatment at SKIMS Soura since, succumbed to her injuries this evening.
The body of the deceased has been handed over to her family for last rites.
