High court directs to prepare guidelines for transporting patients from Lakshadweep to Kochi for treatment. The court also said that 10 days would be allotted for this. The High Court intervened in a petition seeking uniformity in transporting patients from Lakshadweep to Kochi by helicopter.
The High Court has directed the Lakshadweep government to formulate guidelines for transporting patients from Lakshadweep to Kochi by helicopter as well as for transporting patients by air ambulance from other islands to Kavaratti Island within ten days.
Earlier, patients could have been airlifted to Kochi by helicopter if they had a doctor’s certificate. However, according to a notification brought to the island yesterday, patients can be sent by helicopter for treatment only with the permission of the Nalanga Medical Board. The petition was against this.
