Amritsar: In yet another incident of leaking the defense information to outside countries, a border security force (BSF) constable was caught exchanging vital information with his “female handlers” operating from Pakistan for the past almost five months.

A resident of Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, the BSF personnel whose identity was not disclosed by the authorities was posted at BSF’s headquarters at Khasa in Amritsar since August 2019 and was allegedly in touch with a “female Pakistan Intelligence Operator agent” through Facebook, a Delhi-based news organisation Times of India reported.

Quoting sources in BSF, the report said that the armed forces unit had itself handed over the constable to the state special operation cell of Punjab police after getting suspicious of his behavior. His mobile phone and other documents have been confiscated to trace his contacts and handlers in Pakistan.

The report quoting sources said that constable has allegedly admitted to having been supplying information about the movement of the army, installations etc to his female handler.

The report further said that constable who was the admin of a Whatsapp group had included his female handler in the group who was using an Indian SIM card and a non-Muslim name . The group had various other BSF employees as members who used to share informaton in the group. The constable had been actively supplying information to PIO agent since August 2020 and was often given various ‘tasks’ to perform.

However, the armed forces personnel has been booked under section 3,4,5,9 of Official Secrets Act 1923. Police was verifying his bank accounts to know whether he had received any money from his female handler in Pakistan.

Due to the sensitivity of the case BSF and police officials refused to comment on the record about the arrest of BSF jawan, Times of India reported.

However, this is not the first such case in which Indian armed forces personnel were caught sharing the defense information with outside intelligence organizations.

Earlier in September, an Indian military employee from Rewari in Haryana was arrested for “passing classified information to Pakistani Military intelligence” unit on Facebook with a female friend from Pakistan.

The man identified as Mahesh Kumar, 28, son of Rajendra Singh was an employee of Defence’s Military Engineering Services (MES) wing in Jaipur.

Kumar, according to the police, was in touch with operatives of the Pakistani Military intelligence unit since the last two and a half years and has received money from them on multiple occasions.
